Beware of South Central Java Earthquake

SEMARANG-Meteorology and Geophysics (BMKG) Central Java ask for community and local government in the southern part of Central Java on the alert to the possibility of an earthquake.

"It should continue to be vigilant because the southern part of Central Java is a point earthquake," said Head of Data and Information BMKG Java, Evi Luthfiati, in Semarang on Wednesday. Cilacap coastal area, Central Java, have experienced severe damage during the earthquake in 2006.

He explained in the southern part of Central Java, East Indies, especially the sea floor plate is a meeting place of Asia and Australia plates.

For the earthquake in Aceh with the strength of 8.9 on the Richter scale with a depth of 10 kilometers, according to him, is a potential tsunami.

"The terms of the earthquake that can cause a tsunami of them more than magnitude 6.5 on the Richter scale and with a shallow depth," he said.

Once it meets these requirements, then the direct BMKG provide early warning for evacuation.
